WRITERS BLOCK: Your guide to nipping it in the bud!

Sometimes, content has a habit of not flowing as we hope it should, or maybe even as we’ve come to expect it will.
As the proverbial thorn in our creative sides, writers block so often strikes when we least expect (or can afford) it to.
Just like that, the words run dry, and it’s tough call as to whether the immediate frustration - or the fear of never regaining our craft - is the hardest to bear!
The unending blankness can, quite understandably, call both confidence and ability into question. By virtue of having (on many occasions) been faced with this exact predicament, we have however, stumbled upon a knack of somehow (sometimes) getting the words flowing again!
What this involves, quite simply, is flipping the content creators step-by-step around, with a view to creating visuals FIRST, and wording SECOND.
Ordinarily, imagery is used as the informational relay - conveying the article’s message through staging, body language and product placement.
In this case, however, it’s the image itself that works as a vector for the written word, encouraging vocabulary to flow where it might have stagnated before.
We found this on our recent collaboration with Hyley’s Teas, where a determination to not write ‘just another tea post’ lead to us going against the grain, and seeing what would ensue from a visual-led - rather than an informational-led - approach.
An on the spot decision to take the teas outside, ultimately sparked the idea for an editorial angle, that might not have come about otherwise.
For this reason, we think there’s some mileage in a back-to-front approach to content creation on occasion, especially when writers block rears it’s head...as it so often does.
